Vertical pumps for three Geothermal Plants in Kenya

Bombas Ideal, SA has supplied six vertical pumps to equip three geothermal plants in Kenya.
The engineering finally opted for an installation with vertical pumps instead of split chambers due to the ease of installation and low cost of civil works. This extreme was reached after considering many installation hypotheses. Finally deciding to have more advantages over the other.

These VG 187/2 Series Pumps are made entirely of AISI-316L stainless steel as well as the barrels. The pump selection and installation conditions have been studied in order to comply with the existing data in the installation.
Altitude 2000m above sea level, liquid temperature can reach 85oC and an absolute pressure at the suction flange of the barrel of 0.1bar, and service data from 720m3/h to 21m.

The pumps are equipped with cartridge mechanical seals, teflon bearings, vibration transmitter Vibra-Metrix, pt100 probes in the bearing housing. Motors from 90kW at 980 rpm with PT100 probes in the winding, and PT100 probes in the bearings.
For export, 50% of the equipment was factory tested and SGS carried out a very thorough inspection point procedure.
