Description

Fire protection UNE 23500-2012

The protection of lives and property is the main objective of fixed firefighting equipment, within which pumping equipment has a major role in ensuring a supply of sufficient flow and pressure.

A long experience in the manufacture of firefighting equipment has allowed its standardization applying the current regulation UNE 23500-2012. Obligatory Spanish standard for water supply equipment in fire-fighting installations.

The pumping units must be of manual and automatic start, while the stop can only be manual.

All these systems require a pressurized water network for their operation. The fire-fighting equipment will maintain the pressurised network, for which they have a small auxiliary pump called a jockey, driven by an electric motor that replaces any possible leaks and drips that may occur in the installation. A small hydropneumatic reservoir helps reduce the number of starts and cushions pressure fluctuations.

The overall design of all the equipment is ready for automatic fire service, not admitting other uses.

The most important features are :

  • Joint design of all equipment, ready for automatic fire service
  • Modular construction configurable according to the equipment required, either a single main pump or several main pumps driven by an electric motor or diesel The pumping equipment is a set of one or more pumping groups, the set being able to supply the nominal flow rate specified for the system (Qn) required by the standard.
  • When more than one pumping group is installed in a superior or double supply. No more than one must have an electric motor.
  • Both in the case of superior supply and in the case of double supply, the two teams can be made up of three pumping teams according to the attached table.
Nº Pumping equipment Nº Pumping groups
    1 1 (del 100%) 1 ELECTRICA O DIESEL
    2 2 (del 100%) 1 DIESEL + 1 ELECTRICO 2 DIESEL
    2 3 (del 100%) 2 DIESEL + 1 ELECTRICO 3 DIESEL
  • The appropriate FOC equipment is defined in the selection table, depending on the flow required by the firefighting system, number of hydrants, sprinklers, etc. and the required pressure.
  • It is necessary to take into account, the geometric height, between the level of the pumping equipment and the most unfavourable point of the circuit, as well as the load losses of the route.
